Audiences

Application and Web Development

Several different departments at UConn are involved in developing custom applications, websites, or significantly modifying third party software to meet the needs of the University. To provide these services there are many professional employees whose primary job responsibility is doing that IT work. Although there are some University committees focused on technology, they typically are not focused on custom application and web development. The aim of the brown bag series will be to provide an opportunity for staff focused on this work to meet on a monthly basis to see a presentation on ongoing work that other departments are doing and to interact with their peers.

IT Systems

There are dozens of IT professionals at UConn who work on a variety of systems (databases, servers, networks, applications, etc…) and most of them are represented on a variety of committees involved in setting polices and standards for IT. Frequently those committees are focused primarily on the business aspect of information technology and typically do not discuss highly technical topics. The brown bag series aims to fill that gap by providing a monthly meeting where staff members whose primary job responsibility is working with IT systems can meet their peers in other departments and see technical presentations on topics related to technology here at UConn.
