Equipment Moves

The SAIT Technical Support Team has been assigned the responsibility of moving all Division computer equipment (desktop computers, printers, photocopiers, faxes, etc.). Whether the move is only one employee or an entire department, a request should be submitted to SAIT to have computer equipment moved. During moves, an employee’s computer remains with the employee; cross-employee computer changes are not permitted.

Why does SAIT need to move computer equipment?

  • Division computer equipment is assigned to specific employees in specific rooms. Our service and replacement procedures depend on the equipment being where our inventory database says it is.
  • Equipment moved without our knowledge is effectively lost to us and the University. It takes a lot of time to find lost equipment. Time spent doing this is time not spent helping you.
  • SAIT matches computer capability and configuration with employee needs. If you just swap offices, without moving computers, someone will likely be using a computer that’s not capable of doing their work.
  • SAIT always clears hard disks of data and software before switching computers between employees. This protects employee privacy in case there are residual data on the computer. Swapping computers between employees is not done during a move (and rarely at other times) because of the tight deadlines usually involved.
  • We'll make sure your computer is wired properly after it's moved.
